understanding other costs and choices

Clear information for the choices that matter

to your family

Every family’s wishes and circumstances are different. Your cremation option provides a defined foundation of care. Additional services, memorial items, and outside providers can support the plans you choose.

We help you understand what your option includes, which additional choices may be useful, and what each will cost before you decide.

Choose The Support That Fits Your Plans

Some families want simple cremation and prefer to make their own plans for remembrance. Others welcome help with a gathering, church service, visitation, or cemetery placement.

Essential, Guided, and Structured Cremation offer different levels of support and coordination. We can help you compare them and understand how each relates to your wishes.

Choosing Essential Cremation leaves room for a family to organize its own gathering or remembrance. If you would like The Nebraska Cremation Society to coordinate additional elements, we will explain the appropriate option and associated pricing.

You can also ask which decisions need attention now and which can wait. A gathering or permanent memorial may take place later, allowing time to consider what would be meaningful.

Urns and Personal Remembrances

Families have many ways to care for cremated remains and create a personal remembrance.

Choices may include urns, keepsakes, memorial jewelry, solidified remains through Parting Stone, fingerprint keepsakes through Legacy Touch, and memorial glass through Ashes into Glass.

You may select an item through us, provide your own suitable container, or take more time to decide. Purchasing memorial merchandise is optional.

We can explain practical considerations, help with your selection, and coordinate the assistance needed for the option you choose.

Costs That Come From Others

Some expenses connected with a death come from other organizations or individuals whose services a family may choose or need.

Examples include:

·        Cemetery placement, grave opening and closing, or columbarium fees

·        Church, clergy, celebrant, or musician charges

·        Gathering spaces, catering, or serving groups

·        Newspaper obituary publication

·        Flowers and other outside services

These expenses vary by provider, location, and family choice. We help you identify which apply to your plans and distinguish them from the services included in your cremation option.

You may contact an outside provider directly for current pricing, or we can help make the contact when that would be useful. Your written agreement identifies any outside expenses being handled through The Nebraska Cremation Society.

Certified Death Certificates

Certified copies are priced separately from your cremation option. We can explain the current charge and help you consider how many copies may be useful for your family’s needs.

Working With Your Church or Cemetery

When your plans involve a church, parish, religious community, or cemetery, we can help clarify responsibilities and coordinate practical details within the services you select.

Your religious leaders guide matters of faith, ministry, and worship. Your cemetery explains its placement requirements. The Nebraska Cremation Society helps bring the selected practical details into order.

For Catholic families, this may include coordinating with the parish and cemetery concerning a Funeral Mass and the placement of cremated remains.

We explain the coordination provided by your cremation option and identify any separate provider charges.

Transportation and Individual Circumstances

Our cremation options include transportation within our established service area under the conditions described in our pricing information.

When care involves a more distant location, specialized equipment, additional staff, or other circumstances requiring added resources, we explain the applicable services and charges as those needs become known.

This gives your family a clear understanding of the care required and its effect on the written plan.

Special or Case-Specific Circumstances

Some costs arise only under specific conditions.

Examples may include:

  • specialized equipment or staffing required for safe handling
  • circumstances requiring additional coordination or resources
  • delays or requirements involving medical, county, coroner, or regulatory authorities
  • unusual transfer conditions
  • additional documentation or coordination needs
  • location-specific requirements for a service, gathering, cemetery, church, parish, or committal setting

These circumstances are addressed if they apply.

They are not added by assumption.

Clear Choices, Recorded in Writing

Before you authorize your selections, we review the services, merchandise, and known outside expenses with you. Any later additions or changes are explained and documented for authorization.

Your General Price List, written agreement, and authorization documents provide the specific details for your family’s care.

You are welcome to ask:

·        What does our cremation option include?

·        What additional choices would support our plans?

·        Which expenses come from outside providers?

·        What can we decide later?

·        Who will coordinate each part?

You can begin with questions. We will help you understand the choices and the next steps at a pace that fits your circumstances.
