The Four Assurances
How We Care for Your Family: The Four Assurances
Cremation is final, so it should never be handled casually or out of order.
At The Nebraska Cremation Society, our role is to make sure everything is handled correctly, documented properly, and carried out in a clear sequence so nothing needs to be second-guessed later.
Families often come to us during a difficult and unfamiliar time. They may not know what must happen first, what can wait, who is allowed to give permission, how long cremation may take, or what information needs to be completed before cremation can occur.
That is why our work is guided by four simple assurances.
The Four Assurances
1. The right person gives permission
Before cremation can take place, the legally authorized person must be identified, and the required authorization must be completed.
This matters because cremation is final. We do not proceed based on assumptions, informal comments, or uncertainty about who has authority.
If the right person is clear and the necessary authorization is complete, the process can continue. If authority is unclear, disputed, incomplete, or not yet documented, we pause until it is clarified.
That pause is not a delay for its own sake. It is a safeguard.
It protects the deceased person, the family, and the integrity of the process.
2. The right identity is protected
From the time a person comes into our care, identification and custody procedures are followed so that identity is protected at each stage.
This includes attention to transfer, documentation, crematory coordination, and the return of cremated remains.
Families should not have to wonder whether the process is being handled carefully. Our responsibility is to follow the same standards consistently, without improvising or depending on memory alone.
Every step must support clarity about who is in our care, where they are, and what happens next.
3. The right information is in writing
Important decisions should be documented.
Required forms, permissions, selected services, pricing, and procedural details are placed in writing so that the family understands what has been chosen and what has been authorized.
This protects families from misunderstanding. It also protects the process from incomplete instructions, assumptions, or confusion during an emotional time.
Informal comments do not replace required documentation. Verbal conversations may help explain the process, but required authorizations and selected services must be completed in the proper form.
Clear information in writing allows everyone involved to move forward with confidence.
4. The right steps happen in the right order
Cremation is not a single action. It is a sequence.
Some steps can begin promptly. Other steps must wait until the proper authority, documentation, medical certification, permits, or required time periods are complete.
The order matters.
A family may be ready emotionally before the required paperwork is complete. A death may have occurred, but medical certification may still be pending. A service may be discussed before final selections have been documented. A cremation may be desired, but legal authorization may not yet be complete.
Our responsibility is to guide the process carefully and honestly.
We explain what can happen now, what must happen next, and what cannot happen until the required steps are complete.
Why This Matters
Families deserve calm guidance, not pressure. They deserve clear information, not vague promises. They deserve to know that cremation care is being handled with discipline, patience, and respect.
The Four Assurances help make that possible. They give families a simple way to understand our responsibility:
- The right person gives permission
- The right identity is protected
- The right information is in writing
- The right steps happen in the right order
These assurances guide how we communicate, how we document, how we coordinate with other professionals, and how we care for each person entrusted to us.
What Families Can Expect From Us
When your family contacts The Nebraska Cremation Society, we will help you understand what needs to happen without making the process more complicated than necessary.
We will explain who may need to give permission. We will help identify what documentation is required. We will review selected services and pricing in writing. We will explain timing honestly. We will coordinate with the appropriate medical, county, facility, crematory, cemetery, or religious authorities when needed.
We will tell you when something can move forward. We will also tell you when something needs to pause.
That is part of responsible cremation care.
What Can Wait
Not every decision has to be made immediately.
Some families know exactly what they want. Others need time.
In many cases, decisions about obituary wording, memorial gathering details, urn selection, keepsakes, cemetery placement, or family-led remembrance can be discussed after the first necessary steps are underway.
The first priority is not to rush every decision. The first priority is to make sure the right things happen first.
Our Responsibility
The Nebraska Cremation Society provides cremation-focused care and related coordination within our professional scope.
Our responsibility is to help the family understand the process, complete the required documentation, protect identity, coordinate necessary steps, and carry out the selected services as authorized in writing.
We do not direct religious decisions. We do not replace the role of clergy, churches, cemeteries, physicians, coroners, counties, or other proper authorities.
When other authorities are involved, we coordinate within the appropriate boundaries.
Stated simply:
The appropriate authority leads what belongs to that authority.
The Nebraska Cremation Society coordinates the cremation care entrusted to us.
Our Promise of Process
We do not promise that every case will move at the same speed.
We do not promise that every question can be answered immediately.
We do not promise that every requested step can happen before the required permissions and documentation are complete.
What we do promise is a careful process.
We will proceed in the proper order. We will explain timing honestly. We will place important information in writing. We will protect identity. We will pause when something needs to be clarified.
We will not treat cremation as casual, automatic, or improvised.
The Foundation of Our Care
The Four Assurances are more than words on a page. They are the public expression of how we believe cremation care should be handled.
The right person gives permission
The right identity is protected
The right information is in writing
The right steps happen in the right order
That is how we care for your family at The Nebraska Cremation Society.
