Focused

Cremation Care

Welcome To

The Nebraska Cremation Society

Cremation care, explained clearly and handled in the right order.

When a death has occurred, families often need calm guidance before they need decisions. The Nebraska Cremation Society provides cremation-focused care for families throughout Eastern Nebraska within our established service area, including Omaha, Lincoln, Wahoo, and surrounding communities. Our role is to explain what happens next, identify who has authority, complete the required documentation, protect identity and custody, and coordinate cremation according to a clear sequence. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is hidden. Nothing proceeds without required authorization and documentation.

Remembering the Life of

What You May Need First

If a death has just occurred, you may not need to make every decision immediately.

The first questions are usually simple:

Has death been pronounced?

Where is the person who died?

Who has legal authority to make decisions?

What information is needed?

What can wait?

We can help you understand the next step before any services are initiated.

How We Work

Our process is built around clarity, documentation, and order.

Before cremation can occur:

  • The proper person must give permission;
  • Identity and custody must be protected;
  • Required information must be documented;
  • Each step must happen in the proper order.

This is why we explain the process before action, confirm authority before proceeding, and provide pricing in writing before authorization.

Our responsibility is not to move families quickly. It is to move forward correctly.

Licensed Professional Oversight

Cremation care is coordinated under licensed professional oversight in accordance with Nebraska law and required procedures.

This includes:

  • Review of legal authority;
  • Identification and custody procedures;
  • Completion of required documentation;
  • Coordination with medical, hospice, county, or facility personnel when needed;
  • Required permits and authorizations;
  • Communication about timing and next steps.

Families communicate with knowledgeable staff responsible for helping the process move clearly and correctly.

Cremation Options

Families choose cremation in different ways. Some want simple cremation without a formal service coordinated by us. Some want help planning a gathering or informal remembrance. Others want cremation with the familiar structure of a formal service, visitation, church service, or committal. The Nebraska Cremation Society offers three cremation paths:

Structured Cremation

Cremation with formal service coordination.

These are not levels of care. They are different service structures for different families.

The standard of care does not change by option.

Pricing and Transparency

Families should be able to understand pricing before making decisions. Pricing is provided in writing and reflects the services and coordination selected.

A death brings change, sometimes beginning before an anticipated death and continuing through the decisions and responsibilities that follow. The Transition Project helps families understand what is happening, what needs attention now, and what can wait.

Whether a death is anticipated or unexpected, we help you find a clear place to begin and make room for the choices that matter to your family.

Working With Churches, Hospices, Counties, and Professionals

Many families are also working with a church, parish, hospice team, hospital, nursing facility, county official, cemetery, or other professional.

The Nebraska Cremation Society coordinates the practical details within our scope: cremation care, documentation, transportation, timing, identification, custody, and selected services.

Other professionals may have their own responsibilities.

For example, when a church or parish is involved:

The church leads the ministry and theology. The Nebraska Cremation Society coordinates the details selected and documented with us.

This distinction is especially important for Catholic families, where parish guidance may affect Funeral Mass expectations, committal practices, liturgical requirements, cemetery placement, and the proper handling of cremated remains.

Obituaries

Obituaries provide a place for service information, memorial details, and family remembrance when selected.

Some families choose obituary assistance as part of their arrangements. Others prefer to handle this separately or not at all.

When You Have Questions

You do not need to know everything before contacting us.

A licensed funeral professional can explain the process, answer questions, and help you understand what must happen now and what can wait.

Requesting information does not create an agreement or initiate services.
