Structured cremation
Cremation with formal service coordination
Structured Cremation is for families who want cremation together with the familiar order, support, and coordination of a formal service.
This may include a visitation, viewing, church service, chapel service, clergy or celebrant involvement, music, readings, printed materials, obituary coordination, cemetery or committal coordination, and a defined order of events before or in connection with cremation.
Structured Cremation provides the fullest level of service coordination offered by The Nebraska Cremation Society.
This description is provided for general information. It does not create an agreement, initiate services, or replace required authorizations.

No services are initiated until legal authority is confirmed, required documentation is completed, and authorization is provided.
Who This Option Is Designed For
Structured Cremation may be appropriate for families who:
- Prefer a formal or structured service format
- Wish to include visitation or viewing
- Want a church, chapel, facility, or other formal service setting
- Plan to involve clergy, a celebrant, or a designated speaker
- Want coordinated scheduling of service elements
- Want staff support before and during the service
- Want cremation while still preserving familiar funeral customs and roles
Choosing Structured Cremation affects the type and level of service coordination requested. It does not change the care standards.
The same requirements for authority, identification, documentation, custody, and cremation authorization apply in every case.
What Is Included
Structured Cremation includes the core elements required for lawful, professional, and accountable cremation care, together with coordination of a formal service when requested.
This generally includes:
- Transfer of the person who has died into our care within the established service area
- Identification and custody procedures
- Confirmation of legal authority
- Completion and review of required documentation and authorizations
- Coordination of cremation at a licensed crematory
- Communication regarding process, timing, and next steps
- Coordination of visitation, viewing, formal service, or ceremony, if selected
- Coordination with clergy, celebrants, designated speakers, or service participants, if selected
- Coordination with a church, chapel, facility, cemetery, or other location, if selected
- Return of cremated remains as arranged
- Written pricing disclosures as required by law
Specific services, timing, responsibilities, and charges are governed by the General Price List, written agreements, and executed authorization documents.
What Structured Cremation May Include
Depending on the family’s wishes and the documented agreement, Structured Cremation may include help with:
- Scheduling and coordination of visitation or viewing
- Preparation of the deceased person when appropriate and authorized
- Coordination of a formal service at a designated location
- Use of a funeral home, church, chapel, facility, or place of worship
- Coordination with clergy, celebrants, musicians, readers, pallbearers, or other participants
- Obituary timing and service information
- Printed materials or service-related details, if selected
- Coordination of cemetery, committal, or final placement details, if selected
- Staff presence and assistance during the scheduled service
Structured Cremation is intended for families who want cremation, but also want the support and order of a formal service structure.
What Is Not Included Automatically
Structured Cremation includes formal coordination only to the extent selected, priced, and documented in writing.
It does not automatically include:
- Every possible facility, cemetery, clergy, or third-party charge
- Religious or theological determinations
- Church, parish, cemetery, or denominational approvals
- Items not selected by the family
- Merchandise not chosen in writing
- Services or cash advances not included in the written agreement
- Additional transportation, staffing, equipment, or special circumstances not disclosed and documented
Religious, liturgical, cemetery, and denominational requirements are determined by the appropriate church, parish, clergy, cemetery, or governing religious authority.
Formal Structure, Same Standard of Care
Structured Cremation is the fullest service coordination path, but it is not a higher standard of care.
The difference is the amount of ceremony, gathering, staff support, and coordination requested by the family.
The same safeguards apply in every cremation option: the authorized person must give permission, identity must be protected, required information must be documented, and each step must happen in the proper order.
How This Option Is Structured
Structured Cremation follows the same required cremation sequence, with additional coordination for formal service elements selected by the family.
The structure is generally:
- Authority is confirmed
- Required documentation is completed
- Identification and custody procedures are followed
- Visitation, viewing, service, church, cemetery, obituary, or committal details are discussed and documented, if selected
- Timing and location are coordinated with the family and involved participants
- Cremation is coordinated at a licensed crematory according to the documented plan
- Cremated remains are returned or placed as arranged
All elements are defined in advance and documented before proceeding.
For Families Working With a Church, Parish, or Cemetery
Structured Cremation may be appropriate for families who want cremation while also preserving the familiar structure of a church service, Funeral Mass, visitation, committal, or cemetery placement.
In those situations, The Nebraska Cremation Society coordinates the practical details selected by the family, such as timing, documentation, obituary information, transportation, service logistics, and communication with involved parties.
The church, parish, clergy, or cemetery provides religious guidance, theological direction, liturgical requirements, worship expectations, music and reading guidance, and committal practices.
Stated simply:
The church leads the ministry and theology. The Nebraska Cremation Society coordinates the details.
For Catholic families, parish guidance is especially important. Families should speak with their parish about Funeral Mass expectations, liturgical requirements, cemetery or committal practices, and whether cremated remains may be present for a particular service.
Structured Cremation may be the appropriate path when the family wants The Nebraska Cremation Society to help coordinate the formal service details while the parish or church guides the religious and liturgical elements.
