Shirley Ann
Wait
Sep 2, 1935 — Nov 8, 2025
In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Wait
Shirley Ann (Kunz) Wait, a loving and joyful soul, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and laughter. Known for her ever-present laugh and comforting hugs, she had a gift for making everyone feel cherished and loved. Her beauty radiated not only in her appearance but in the depth of her heart, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Shirley was born on September 2, 1935, in Elmwood, Nebraska, to Earl and Della (Hartsock) Kunz. One of seven children, she experienced both the joy and heartbreak of a large family, having been preceded in death by five of her sisters- Loretta, Irene, Janice, Carol, and Sandy- as well as her parents, Earl and Della. Leaving her brother, Earl Jr, to carry on.
She married Richard Snyder in November 1954, and together they shared over a decade before divorcing in January 1965. She later married Roy Wait, Jr. in September 1966, and they spent 28 years together before divorcing in April 1994. She was preceded in death by both of her former husbands. Shirley had a special love for teaching the everyday things in life. she taught life skills and simple tasks with patience and care. She found joy in sharing what she knew, always ready to guide with her wisdom. She was also the handiest "man" around, never afraid to fix what was broken or figure things out on her own, a testament to her strength, independence, and determination.
In her professional life, Shirley was a trailblazer in a male-dominated industry. She began her career with the BNSF railroad in March of 1977 and dedicated 23 years of service before retiring from the Deisel Shop in July of 2000 at the age of 65. Her hard work and perseverance paved the way for others and reflected her unwavering spirit.
She found joy in life's simple traditions, especially holiday candy making, where her kitchen became a place of laughter and memories as she stressed over a pot of boiling caramel. She was also renowned for her rhubarb pie, a treat lovingly made and remembered by all who had the pleasure of enjoying it. She enjoyed gardening and bowling in her younger years, as well.
She is survived by her three devoted children and their families:
Tony & Debra Snyder and their daughter Naomi
Kathy & Dane Bjorklund
Karen Wyatt and her family: Justin Wait & his girlfriend Kelly and their kids Jackson & Jaz, Stephanie Peacock Brown and her kids Aniston, Chesney, and Atlas, Makenna Wyatt, and Skylar Wyatt.
All of whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. Her love, generosity, and spirit will continue to live on through them and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She was also an animal lover and leaves behind her kitty, Ember, who lives with Kathy & Dane now. Preceded by her dogs Missy and Chloe, and many other family pets over the years.
