Phyllis Jean DeGrave, found her peace on November 24, 2025. She was born on 12/26/48 in Rockford, Illinois to Earl Johnson and Leota (Higgins) Montgomery. She grew up in Rockford, Illinois.and she married her high school sweetheart, Douglas Roman Degrave. They were married for 54 years, their children were Charles DeGrave, Todd DeGrave, Samantha DeGrave Madderom and her son in law Jeffrey L Madderom.

Grandchildren Amanda (Geoff), Charissa (Andrew), Nate, Heaven, Izzy, Cynder. Great Grandchildren Eisley, Grayson, Reznor, Lanie and Amelia. She had international kids thru AFS: Vinciane and German and her international AFS grandkids are Anna, Feña, Keke, Johanne, Louise, Malou, Luke, Eva, Alix and Sofie. Phyllis brothers were Bob and Curt Johnson. She loved her stepparents (Gwen and Ken) plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mom loved to spend time with family, seeing her grandchildren grow and had many laughs with them over the years. She also loved to travel and went on many adventures with her kids and grandkids around the United States and the world. She never met a cupcake she didn't like.

She loved David Muir, reading and car karaoke to the Mama Mia soundtrack with her daughter and granddaughters.

She was married to her lifelong friend. They were the perfect example of love and family.

Mom was funny, charming, caring, loyal and she loved her family. She loved hard, forgave quickly and laughed often. She also didn't have to say a word and her eyes would let you know what she was thinking.

Rest In Peace Phyllis Jean the Little Machine! It was an honor for us, with the support of CHI Hospice to respect your terms, wishes and journey. Your transition was beautiful and thanks for trusting us to witness you becoming a beautiful purple butterfly.

Her children and grandchildren will have a private celebration of her life.
