Obituary

Nina Ann (Shea) Geiler January 26, 1925 December 12, 2014 Nina Ann (Shea) Geiler was born in Omaha, Nebraska as the only child to Thomas Edward and Chloa Ethel (Coleman) Shea. Nina's family lived on a small acreage in Douglas County outside South Omaha's city limits, where, as a child, Nina fondly remembered ice being delivered to her home on a horse-drawn cart. During the 1930s depression, Nina's family raised and sold chickens and potatoes, sold milk from their cow, and laundered white cotton uniforms from a neighboring animal research business. For the next 30 years, Nina's parents successfully grew and operated Shea Laundry, which laundered and delivered white inspection coats and animal shrouds for Omaha's independent meatpacking plants located in our nation's largest livestock market and meatpacking industry. Nina graduated from South High School and majored in music at Wheaton College, Illinois. She graduated from Omaha University and taught music and art at Ashland Park country school in Omaha. In early 1948, Nina married Frederick Geiler, who served his country in Europe during World War II and co-founded Geiler Bros. Millwork and Lumber in Ralston, Nebraska. After Frederick's death in 1981, Nina married Ashland, Nebraska farmer Donald Smith. After his death in 1995, Nina was married to John Bevins until his death in 2003. Nina raised and nurtured her four children; gardened; sewed for family and friends; researched, bought, and restored antiques; painted in oils and acrylics; wrote many loving letters to friends and family; and read avidly. Ninas Christian faith was a strength to her, and she was always active in church activities. She was a vocal soloist throughout most of her life, and later served as a church organist. As a lifelong resident of Nebraska, Nina lived on farms outside of both Ralston and Ashland. She later had homes in Omaha, at Silver Ridge Village in Gretna, and at South Haven in Wahoo. Nina is survived by children Rick (Kelly) Geiler, Marjorie (Garry) Barker, Janice (Jon) Geiler, and Karen (John) Wegner; grandchildren Daniel (Laura) Caywood Barker, Matthew (Jenn) Geiler, Scott Forbes, Stephanie (Preston) Byrd, Michael (Nicole) Geiler, Katharine (Chris) Olson, Andrew (Katie) Barker, Madisen Geiler, Malorie Geiler, and Margaret Geiler; and great-grandchildren Edison and Eliot Geiler; Wilson and Chester Geiler; Priscilla Caywood Barker; Lewis and Simon Byrd; and Joshua, Adam, and Rebecca Olson. Memorials can be made to Cedar Hill Church west of Ashland, Nebraska at 23001 N 162nd Road, Greenwood, Nebraska.
