Nick briefly taught in Hooper Bay, Alaska, and Ketchikan, Alaska. Upon returning to Omaha, he taught history at St. Roberts high school and coached the middle school football team. After retiring from teaching, he greeted guests at the Boys Town Visitors Center and welcomed students as a security guard at Marian High School.
