Mary Ballweg, formerly of Spalding, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove on May 5, 2023 at the age of 82.

She was born in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Frank and Theresa (Halbur) Batenhorst. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1958.

On November 25, 1961, she was united in marriage to Frank Ballweg at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They resided in Spalding until entering Greeley Nursing Home and Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home. They were happily married for over 61 years.

Mary was a member of St. Michael's Church and St. Anne's Altar Society, as well as the Rosary Ladies Group for many years.

She is survived by husband, Frank, daughter Theresa (Allan) Rolf and son John Ballweg, of Spalding, son-in-law David Bach of Minnesota, as well as 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.

She was preceded in death by parents, daughter Margaret Bach, sisters Eileen Schmitz, Madalaine Gemar and Jean Mahoney, brother Tom Batenhorst, and infant twin sons.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 16, at 10:30 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding with Fr. Anthony Thekkekara officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening, May 15 from 5-7 at the church. Inurnment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery.
