Larry (Butch) Gann Poindexter was born September 21, 1948, in Marshall, Missouri to Kathryn Ann (Laxson) Rudd and Marshall Gann Poindexter. Larry grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 1966. As a young man he enjoyed working on cars with his stepfather, Arthur Charles Rudd, the man who raised him. He also played football, ran the town with his buddies, and protected his older sisters and younger brothers. He was quite accomplished in football, track, and basketball. Following high school, Larry married long time girlfriend, Suzanne Duffy, on June 1, 1968. They were married in Marshall, Missouri at Gill Memorial Baptist Church and celebrated 45 years together in 2013. Larry searched for career options that would support his new family and quickly learned that Suzanne did not support his car racing aspirations. While growing and overcoming lifes challenges together, they had the pleasure of many amazing adventures. Some of their best times were in Puerto Vallarta, Hawaii, North Carolina, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. Suzanne treated Larry with a trip to Las Vegas for his 50th birthday where he met one of his golf heroes, Arnold Palmer. Simple times - morning coffee together, laughing over their animals and grand-animals and spending time with their family and friends were the times they cherished most. Larry and Suzanne have three daughters, Abra, Amy, and Brenna who live in Omaha, Nebraska. While they were growing up, Larry spent time with his daughters coaching softball teams, attending soccer practices, playing outside, and taking them for motorcycle rides. He believed firmly that providing was his primary responsibility. Steady and strong, he was a loving and committed father who demonstrated the beauty in generosity, the importance of love, and the ability to be affectionate. Amy married Matthew Brack on May 11, 2007. Abra married Lara Colton on October 9, 2011. In the years since Matt that Lara joined the family, Matt became the son that Larry never had and Lara became his fourth daughter. He cherished his time with them, and loved them both. Larry and Suzanne also have one granddaughter, Kirah. Larry was so proud of Kirah. "Gramps" demonstrated unconditional love for her and took every opportunity to defy all of Brennas rules and requests. He found that being "Gramps" could be even more fun than being a father. Larry spent most of his adult life working for ConAgra Foods. As a young adult, he worked for Banquet Foods, in Marshall, loading trucks. He quickly worked his way up to management and then moved his family to St. Louis, Missouri. He continued his upward career advancement, eventually moving with ConAgra to Omaha, Nebraska in 1989. He finished his 27 year career in 2000, as a Senior Director of Purchasing for the frozen foods packaging division. He was able to enjoy many amazing hobbies and opportunities in his life. Outside of his family, golf became his greatest passion and he was able to play many courses across the country his favorite being Pebble Beach. Larry also loved fishing, hunting, driving his vintage Cadillac and Riviera, riding his motorcycle, and traveling. He was grateful to do many of these activities with his family and dear friends. Larry was a proud, kind spirited and generous man giving of his time, talents, and skill. He provided stability both to his immediate and extended family. While many found him intimidating at first, once he shared his beautiful smile and baby blue eyes, you knew he was a caring, yet direct man. He taught his friends and family the importance of believing in themselves through his example of drive and determination. He freely gave his love and support to all who knew him. As his daughters developed their own lives, Larry was challenged to open to new ideas and experiences through them. His focus was always his love for his girls, which allowed him to grow and adapt. His daughters have been so glad to be part of that growth. Larry passed away on November 4, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska just six weeks after his 65th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents: Kathryn and Arthur Rudd and Marshall Poindexter and his grandparents: Kathryn Fenner and Claude Laxson; Gladys Gann and Roy Poindexter.
