Kathryn (Kathy) Cherne White, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by her husband and three children.

She was an avid traveler, embracing cultures, art, and food from across the globe with her friends and family. Her favorite places included Italy, Australia, Thailand, and Slovenia and she enjoyed exploring the United States. She lived in many places throughout her full life, from Billings, Montana, her childhood home, to the United Kingdom, Singapore, and the suburbs of Washington D.C., before coming to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to family. She made wonderful friends wherever she went.

Music was a lifelong passion, and she loved sharing her gift with others. She sang and taught piano, voice, and guitar lessons throughout her life. She instilled the love of music in her children (who all still play), and in schools, churches, and in communities wherever she lived.

Kathy was an active volunteer through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps with Catholic Social Services, spending much of her free time volunteering at St. Louise Gift and Thrift in Lincoln, in order to benefit the local community with her boundless energy.

Kathy was a vibrant, creative, and thoughtful person, finding ways to make life more colorful for her family and her many circles of friends with generous gifts, activities, and travel.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John; her children, John, Jimmy, and Ann Marie; her grandchildren Bracken, Reese, and Elowyn; and her siblings Chrissy Regnier and Michael Cherne.

A service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church (2325 S 24th St) in Lincoln on January 31st at 11AM. An additional service will be held at 10 AM on February 14th at St Rose in Belmar NJ
