Obituary

Jerzy "George" Spicha, 72, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on February 3, 1953, in Lincoln, Nebraska, George was the son of Stanislay and Stephanie Spicha. His childhood was full of adventures—days spent with his brothers at the creek hunting, and hours in the shop creating everything from tables to a coffin that he famously insisted on sleeping in for a while.

For 40 years, he made a living buying and selling unique collections of antiques, art, and everything in between. He had an eye for rare finds and an even better story to go with each one. When he wasn't collecting, he ran his taxidermy business and worked construction.

George traveled the country with his beloved partner, Judi, meeting amazing people and collecting treasures along the way until her passing in 2003. Together they built a life centered around their pack of dogs, close circle of friends, and shared love of design—inside and outside their home. They threw epic Christmas parties and never met a stranger. After her death, George planted a white dwarf peach tree in her honor, caring for it faithfully and sharing its fruit with anyone who stopped by.

While most of his time was spent collecting, he also loved riding motorcycles, racing fast cars, exploring the Petroglyphs, and growing anything that would take root. In his later years, he cherished time with his kids, grandkids, and long-time partner, Tammy. Steak dinners and cups of coffee were timeless traditions. Still, more than anything, George loved sitting around a table with friends night after night, cigarette in hand and beer nearby, surrounded by the best company around.

He is survived by his children, Jesse (Jordan) Buntgen and Amy Busch; five grandchildren, Trenton (Aleisha), Kylie, Carson, Jerzey, and Jemma; and four great-grandchildren, Kylynn, Abel, Willow, and Kehlani. He is also survived by his brother, Zyg (Dottie) Spicha; sisters Barb (Kirk) Bailey and Susie (Dale) Spicha; honorary family and partner Tammy Lawyer; her children, Skyler Westling (Matt) and Paige (JD) Dickerson; honorary grandchildren Aiden, Addy, Remy, and Tilly; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bog Spicha; sisters, Jane Koch and Lucy Broman; and beloved partner, Judi Gierlich.

His life was a collection of stories, laughter, and uniqueness — all shared generously with those lucky enough to know him.

A celebration of George's life will be held at Mercy City Church, 6224 Logan Ave, Lincoln, NE, on Saturday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be a casual, outdoor, open-house celebration. There will be no formal service.

The family invites you to bring stories to tell and pictures to share. Please, no formal attire—George loved his jeans and T-shirts, so dress comfortably in his honor. If you have a motorcycle or car he admired, please drive it—he loved anything with a motor!
