Obituary

Edward Lenz was born January 21, 1939 in Boone County, Ashland, Missouri

Edward came from humble beginnings, the 3rd born of what would be a family of 6.

He moved a few times with family, and ended up in Omaha/Bellevue NE area, where he resided until his passing on January 5, 2026

Edward attended Pleasant Hill Grade school and graduated from South High School in 1957, while a senior there was a sign posted on the bulletin board by Oscar Airhorn looking for someone interested in "cabinetry" for $34.00 a week, Eds father encouraged him to get into carpentry, that skill progressed to Parsons Construction and then he heard the Union Carpenters Local 253 were being paid $2.00 an hour, and decided to pursue that, he was hired to work for Peter Kewitt for 14 years, working on projects like Nebraska Furniture Mart, Southroads Mall, Omaha Power Plant, Woodmen of the World Tower and the Smokestack in Nebraska City, among other big name projects.

Edward joined the Army in 1962 where he served as Military Police until his honorable discharge in 1967, he was a member of the American Legion and VFW, LaSalle Club, and Omaha Sports Club.

Ed was an avid sports fan, but also a player. His home is filled with trophies that show his love of the sports, he even gave 50 trophies to Boys Town to be retagged, he told them, "They don't make trophies like they used to". He bowled with a 187 average, his high game was 278, he played softball with some of the guys he bowled with, and on a co-ed team where he played catcher and centerfield. He was a square dancer with Harlan Singles Square dance club and even called a dance or two. Ed played pool league and recreational pool with Omaha Sports Club at Big Johns Billiards. Ed won't brag about his golfing, but he did love the sport and spending time outside with his golf partners, mostly Jerry, Johny and Jack. He belonged to Planet Fitness and worked out with his 90+ brother in law. He played darts, loved stock car races, music, dancing, and singing, his favorite artist, Hank Williams Sr. He volunteered multiple times for the Omaha Running Club and he has the t-shirts to prove it. Ed was an avid walker at the mall and the grocery store,(where he could never pass up a bargain), he played acoustic and steel guitar and was asked to play back up for Eddy Arnold band in Nashville, by a friend of his, but when told they'd have to be in Nashville the next night by 8:00, he turned him down, because he had a softball tournament that day! Almost a star! Ed also enjoyed aviation, and used his private pilot's license for many adventures.

Ed loved to eat, his favorite he said was liver and onions, he loved buffets he met with his friends regularly at different venues, and almost anyone who meant anything to him had joined him at Taco Tuesdays at the Legion, and he hosted the Tom and Jerry Party as far back as anyone remembers.

Ed was a long time member of St. Agnes Church in Omaha and later Assumption Parish.

Ed often wondered what his life would have been like if he chose to marry, but he wasn't to know for sure, he is deeply loved by multiple nieces and nephews and their children, who loved his long stories, "kind" spirit, and the "Cowtales" candy he dished out. We can never replace the space he left in our hearts that day God called him home, but we will do our best to share the memories of the sweetest man, who never complained, who would always help out someone in need. I can hear him saying: " I love you's" – don't know what I'd do without you. ("DITTO" from us.)

He is survived by one brother Arthur Lenz Sr. (Joyce) of Headland AL; aunt Mariann Lenz; 15 nieces and nephews and families; several cousins; and multiple close friends, he was preceded in passing by his parents Raymond and Marie (Fontaine)Lenz, his siblings and spouses Shirley (Jack), Bogatz Raymond (Mary) Lenz , Pete Lenz, and Sharon (William) Hunt.
