Obituary

Dorothy Loraine (Kudrna) Beyke Dorothy Loraine (Kudrna) Beyke was born on April 29, 1929 in Cowles, Nebraska to Fred & Ruby (Potter) Kudrna. She was the second of seven children. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Cowles High School. She married the love of her life, Norbert John Beyke, on April 10, 1951 at St. Cecilia Church in Hastings, Nebraska. They started their life together in Hastings but Dorothy moved to Red Cloud during Norbert's deployment. The first of their five children, Cecilia, was born in Red Cloud. After Norbert's deployment ended, they returned to Hastings where Diana and Teresa were born. A job relocation moved the family to Albert Lea, Minnesota where Mark and Sandra were born but they ultimately moved back to Hastings. Dorothy was a wife, mother and homemaker all of her life, but also worked part-time at Allen's Department Store when the family returned to Hastings. In 1981 Dorothy joined the staff at Central Community College in the Shipping and Receiving Department; retiring in 1993. Dorothy loved helping at the kids' schools and was active in PTO. She was designated a lifetime PTA member at Morton Elementary School because of her commitment and dedication. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and the family spent many weekends and vacations relishing time together camping. After retirement, Dorothy and Norbert liked camping across the United States and spending time with family, often camping their way between children and grandchildren to enjoy life! She was happiest when surrounded by her family. Norbert and Dorothy moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to family in 2009 and loved being close enough to enjoy many of their grandchildren's activities. In 2013, they moved into Gateway Vista where they remained until Norbert passed on September 16, 2019 and Dorothy passed on January 11, 2024. Dorothy loved visiting with people finding a common thread in life, and everyone was treated like family. Dorothy is survived by her five children: Cecilia Ristau, Diana (Brian) Osborne, Teresa Black, Mark Beyke and Sandra Beyke; 12 grandchildren: Lisa (Todd) Carlson, Kevin Ristau, Danae (Jon) Martin, Kristin (Ryan) Mauseth, Nick Osborne, Beth (Blake) Benton, Jenny (Joe) Damti, Zachary (Rachel) Black, Tessa (Paul) Schwering, Alexandra (Greg) Miller, Joshua Peters and Hannah (Seth) Lindokken; 27 great-grandchildren: Thunder, Justine, Madelyn, Noah, Madisyn, Morgan, Braydon, Connor, Evan, Jack, Benny, Abram, Anita, Katherine, Estelle, Emma, Dale, Emerson, Jude, Logan, Brooklynn, Holly, Joseph, Ellen, Nora, Peter and William and one great-great-granddaughter, Ellie; sister Darlene Brown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Raymond (Judy) Beyke; Doris (Gordon) Cox and brother-in-law Bob Girmus; many nieces and nephews and too many friends to count.
