On December 20, 2025, Don Eckert passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. He was 66 years old.

Don was born on January 20, 1959, in Heidelberg, Germany. He later attended Hanford High School and earned his GED in 1978. A skilled and dedicated mechanic, Don devoted more than 20 years to his trade—19 of those years proudly working alongside his son. His work ethic, technical ability, and commitment to doing things the right way defined both his career and his character.

Outside of work, Don was a devoted NASCAR fan who rarely missed a Sunday race. He was also a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, reflecting his appreciation for tradition, responsibility, and personal values.

Above all else, Don adored his granddaughters, whom he affectionately referred to as his "perfect angels." He took immense pride in their accomplishments, especially in sports, often proclaiming, "Those are my girls," and "They are Eckerts." His love for his family was unwavering and evident in everything he did.

Don is survived by his children, Donnie (Kalyn) Eckert and Crystal Eckert; his grandchildren, Nathan, Faith, Skylin, and Elliana; his mother, Nancy Eckert; and his siblings, Rob (Sandy McKinsey Perry) Eckert, Jeff (Nicole) Eckert, Mary (Jeff) Johnson, and Diana Fischer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence "Ed" Eckert; his brother, Lief Thomas; and his former wife, Bobbie Eckert.

Don will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, pride in his family, and the quiet ways he showed his love. His legacy lives on through the generations who proudly carry his name.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Don on Saturday, January 3, 2026 beginning at 1:30 pm at DJ's Dugout Sports Bar, 777 North 114th Street, Omaha, NE 68154.
