Obituary

Dennis "Denny" Decker, age 86, of Arlington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Denny was born on May 15, 1939, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Rusty and Laura Decker. On March 26, 1969, he married the love of his life, Althea Sheets, and together they made their home in Arlington—fondly known to Denny as "The Big Apple."

Denny was a familiar face around town, having worked at the Arlington grocery store for over 40 years and later with Arlington Public Schools for 28 years. He also proudly served with the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department for a decade.

Those who knew Denny will remember his love of polka music, dancing, and playing the drums. He never missed a chance to watch WWE wrestling or a good western, and he was happiest when sharing a meal and a laugh with family. Denny had a knack for "stirring the pot" in the most endearing way and never met a stranger. Somehow, he always managed to get wherever he needed to go—without ever driving!

Denny is survived by his wife, Althea Decker; daughters Hansie (Gregg) Hill and Laura (Jeff) Pleskac; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rusty and Laura Decker, and Clarence and Viola Kassebaum, who lovingly stepped in as family after his parents' passing.

The family kindly requests no flowers. Memorials are suggested to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Arlington Auditorium, with a luncheon to follow.
