Benjamin R
Aman
Dec 11, 1943 — Jul 14, 2024
Benjamin "Ben" Aman
Benjamin Riley Aman was born on December 11, 1943, the third of five children born to Vervie May (Millard) Aman and Robert Dee Aman. He passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 at the age of 80 years.
He grew up and attended school in the small town of Ayr, Nebraska. School was difficult for Ben due to his "busy" personality. He did not graduate high school but did earn his GED in the year 1978.
He had enlisted in the Army in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He re-enlisted in the Army National Guards and served until his military retirement in 1994. During his Army career he served in a variety of capacities overseas. He was in Germany and was once detained for an extended period at "Check-Point Charlie" with other military personnel.
During his Army National Guard enlistment, he worked in a variety of civil occupations including:
farming, law enforcement, grounds maintenance and later at the Gibraltar Paper factory, also known as the "Box Factory" in Hastings, Nebraska. He retired in 2008.
Ben enjoyed working in his "shop" creating a variety of items. He was a skilled wood worker and made old fashioned coffee grinders and recipe boxes. He was also known to make specialty items like cedar chests, curio cabinets, framed "glass" boxes and other items for many family and friends. He was also very skilled at working with metal welding and could "fix" almost anything. He participated for many years in the Platte Valley Antique Tractor show at Dyer Park and later at Crystal Lake near Ayr, Nebraska and enjoyed owning some of the antique tractors and equipment. He always enjoyed time with family and friends and, although he was a man of few words, he enjoyed good conversation. His smile was a bit reserved but when he shared it, a person felt very comforted and joyful within it.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Karen Aman Rozmiarek, his sister and brother-in-law Lorlei Aman Hart and Gene Hart, his brother Stanley Aman one nephew, Patrick Hart, one niece, Kelly Jo Aman, and one great niece Shantel Rozmiarek Lee.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Debra Aman Kort and Wayne Kort of Coaldale Colorado, his sister-in-law Barbara Meyer Aman of Edmond, Oklahoma, Many nieces and nephews and a host of Good friends.
Burial and graveside services will be at a later date and hosted by the family and The Nebraska Cremation Society.
Memorials may be sent to the family c/o Debra Kort at PO Box 182 Coaldale, CO 81222
